Hemp cookery
Hempseed and hempseed oil are highly nutritious, and can be used widely in the preparation of many foods. The current caveat is that hemp and its products should not be used in human nutrition at present in Australia for legal reasons. These reasons are due to change shortly when Australia comes into line with current New Zealand legislation. For the purposes of the recipes below, we are of course assuming that hemp seed and it’s oil are approved in Australia for human use.

Hemp seed and its oil should never be heated as they contain high levels of essential fatty acids, nor should it be used in baked or cooked recipes – hence all the recipes below are in their raw form. Hemp oil and hemp seed should be kept in the fridge in dark containers to prevent oxidation as much as possible. Once opened, containers of hemp oil should be
consumed within a few weeks.
